George Dooly – is a local who was born in Noodle, TX but raised in Abilene, TX. His family was musically inclined, with his mother and sisters active in the church choir making his early influences gospel. George was active in the school band himself. His aunt gifted him his first set of drums with which he and a few friends started a band. They called themselves “Indian Summer”. They then evolved to “Young Legends”. After appearing on a “Jerry Lewis” telethon, they took on other gigs. At 16, and in the Navy, he he began to play guitar, banjo, and harmonica. Having realized his talent for music, he even tried his hand at writing music and in 1998, 3 of those songs were published in the Library of Congress. Bryan Thomas cut his song called “Laugh While the Laughing is Easy”.
George has stayed active playing in different bands, supporting the music department in his church and passing the love of music on to his grandchildren. He currently resides in Houston with his family.
George now performs with Walker County Line.
